Physics scientist from Mumbai, Rohini Godbole, was awarded the Order National du Merit, France’s prestigious honor. She received this award not only because of the collaboration between France and India but also for encouraging women to come in the field of science. The announcement was made by IISc Bengaluru on 13 January 2021. Rohini is a professor at the Center for High Energy Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Rohini was born in Pune, Maharashtra. He received his BSc degree from Sir Parshuram Bhau College, Pune. After this Rohini did her MSc from Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai. In 1979, this female scientist did her PhD from Brook State University of New York. He worked as a lecturer and reader in the Physics Department of Bombay University from 1982 to 1995. In 1995, Rohini worked as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She became a professor in 1998.

In 2019, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for the commendable work done by him in the field of Physics. Earlier in 2009, he received the Satyendranath Bose medal. Rohini has edited three books so far. One of her books was based on Lilavati’s daughters, women scientists of India. He has also authored more than 150 research papers.
