The tussle between the state government and the Lieutenant Governor in the country’s capital Delhi has taken a new turn. Guidelines have been issued for Unlock-3 across the country, under this, the Kejriwal government in Delhi decided to open hotels and weekly markets, but Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal rejected the decision of the Kejriwal government.

For the time being, the decision of the Lieutenant Governor has increased the concern of all the business organizations and hotel associations in the city which have suffered economic losses due to the lockdown. On this issue, a letter has been written to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on behalf of the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), an organization of traders and entrepreneurs. The letter has demanded that permission to open hotels and weekly markets in Delhi should be given.

CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal says, “These two are such businesses, which have employment of about 2 million people. As soon as the Delhi government allowed them to open, a wave of joy ranged in the entire hotel operators and shopkeepers associated with the weekly market. But after LG’s decision, their happiness has turned into mourning.

The Chamber of Trade and Industry wrote in a letter to the Lieutenant Governor, “On 8 June 2020, the central government’s order was that hotels and weekly markets could be opened all over the country. After this, different state governments gave them permission, but at that time the conditions in Delhi were serious about Corona, so hotels and weekly markets were not allowed.

In its letter, the CTI has said that ‘Corona’s condition is getting better in Delhi for a long time now. With the reduction of corona cases, the recovery rate has also reached about 90 percent. Whereas in other states where the situation in Corona is appalling, hotels and weekly markets have been allowed. In neighboring cities like Noida and Gurugram, hotels and weekly markets have been opening for a long time.
