Government asks SC for hearing on resumption of internet service in JK

The government has sought a new date for hearing on the resumption of internet service in Jammu and Kashmir. The hearing of the case was yet to be held on August 5, but the Solicitor General and Attorney General have asked the court not to hear on this date. The Supreme Court was told that officers would not be present on this date, due to which the hearing should be further.

The Solicitor General said, ‘August 5 has some special significance in Kashmir, so a new date should be given for hearing on it. There is an anniversary of the removal of Section 370 on 5 August. Therefore, officials of Jammu and Kashmir government will not be present on this day. The Center has given time to verify the statement of the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on internet restoration.

The petitioner said in the court that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Center did not accept the decision of the Supreme Court. The government was required to publish the date of the meetings, the information of the meeting and the decision taken by the committee online, as it was done during 2G of internet speed. The filing of the so-called report of the Special Committee in the case is opposed to the decision of the Supreme Court.

Girish Chandra Murmu, the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, spoke to Aaj Tak on many issues of the state. The Lieutenant Governor also shared his views regarding the ban on high speed internet. The Lieutenant Governor said that this was done due to law and order. It is being reviewed under the supervision of the Supreme Court. High speed broadband service has been provided wherever required.
