Indian Railways says that in view of the Ganpati Festival, Ganpati is ready to run a special train, but the Maharashtra government has to take a decision on it. Rail services were halted across the country to prevent the spread of corona virus and infection, although later some special trains were started for the movement of people.
Meanwhile, the Central Railway has written a letter to the state government asking their views about running Ganpati special train (special long distance mail / express train for Konkan region for Maharashtra). Also, the number and dates of trains have been asked to run these special trains. This letter was written on 23rd of last month.
In response to the letter of Central Railway, the Director of the Disaster Management Unit of Maharashtra informed from his letter written on 7 August that special trains can be run in the Konkan region for the Ganpati Festival. Then the Central Railway immediately scheduled special trains and sent them for approval of the Railway Board.
The Railway Board has approved the running of special trains, following the Home Ministry’s Standard Operations Procedure (SOP) and the inter-district travel norms of the Maharashtra government in the wake of the Corona epidemic.
The railway is ready to run special trains with all the provisions applicable under the Corona Protocol, including social distancing. However, senior officials of the Maharashtra government informed by phone on the night of August 8 that the matter related to running special trains was under consideration of the Maharashtra government and told that advice would be taken on it. Since then, the railway administration at the divisional and regional levels is in constant contact with the officials of the Government of Maharashtra and is waiting to move forward.
