Champions League will resume in August, five months after the suspension caused by the Corona virus pandemic and will be played as a 12-day mini-tournament in Lisbon. The Uefa Executive Committee on Wednesday decided that eight teams will play knockout matches at two venues from the quarter-finals. According to this unprecedented decision, the final match will be played on Sunday 23 August at the domestic stadium of Portugal club Benfica, which was to be held at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

The Europa League will also be a knockout tournament of eight teams. It will begin on August 10 and will be played at four stadiums in West Germany. On Friday 21 August Cologne will host the final which was earlier to be played on 27 May in Gdansk, Poland. But this city of Poland will host the 2021 final. Both tournaments are yet to complete their quarterfinal line up.

Union of European Football Association (UEFA) has stated that the Champions League and Europa League knockout matches of eight teams will conclude in August in Portugal’s capital, Lisbon. The Champions League will start again on August 7. UEFA said in a statement that the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will take place in August in Lisbon, Portugal. All matches will be in single leg.

The statement further said that it is yet to be decided whether the remaining four matches of the second leg of Round 16 will be played in the stadium of the home teams or in Portugal. The 2019-20 UEFA Champions League was postponed from March due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Not only football but almost all sports have been affected by the corona virus. This includes the NBA, Olympic Games and the Indian Premier League.

Australia’s A League football will resume from July 16 with 27 matches played in 28 days. The Australian Football Federation announced that the match between Victory and West United would restore the league. All clubs have agreed to extend the league by 31 August. The league was halted in March due to the corona virus epidemic. Clubs have started medical examination of players and staff. Teams will start practice from Wednesday.

The venue of the matches in early August on Wednesday was not decided. Four matches of the second leg of the Champions League were postponed in March due to the epidemic. In Round 16 in the Europa League, only six were completed from the eight matches of the first leg. Due to the Covid-19, all sporting activities came to a standstill, with Uefa postponing the European Championship until June 2021. On Wednesday it was again confirmed that all 12 host cities (of 12 countries) would have to host their matches next year.
